We grew up in a tiny apartment, so my parents made sure we spent time outdoors, exploring nature and the world around us. As far back as I can remember, my siblings and I were always playing with dirt, picking flowers, or climbing up trees. As an adult and mother, I value all my parents taught us through their love and passion for nature. My mom is from the capital of Colombia, Bogota, while my dad grew up on a farm in Cali, Colombia near the Andes Mountains.
He was always pointing out nature and wildlife everywhere we would go, even at our local playground.
At the entrance of our local park stood a big blackberry tree. He would pluck the blackberries right off the tree and give them to us. His mantra: “La tierra siempre produce lo que uno necesita.” The earth always produces what one needs.
Colombia is one of the world's ''megadiverse” countries, hosting close to 10 percent of the planet’s biodiversity. This is why we donate to the Nature Conservancy’s “Plant a Billion trees” program, a top-rated non-profit charity (as rated by Charity Navigator). Their efforts are focused on the restoration of forests across the globe. Because we know and value that the best way to lead, is through example.
“La tierra siempre produce lo que uno necesita.”
The earth always produces what one needs.
More on the program
The Nature Conservancy's Plant a Billion Trees campaign is a major forest restoration effort with a goal of planting a billion trees across the planet. Trees provide so many benefits to our everyday lives.
They filter clean air, provide fresh drinking water, help curb climate change, and create homes for thousands of species of plants and animals. Planting a Billion Trees can help save the Earth from deforestation. It’s a big number, but we know we can do it with your help.
