Boost Your Immunity with Elderberry & Honey Energy Bites

It feels like we're always trying to stay one step ahead of the next sniffle, right? Especially with kids, it's a constant battle. I've been looking for simple ways to get more immune-boosting stuff into our diets, and I keep coming back to elderberries. I've read a bit about its antioxidant properties and all the vitamins it has, and it just seems like a good thing to have around. I stumbled upon this recipe for energy bites, and it's become a go-to because, honestly, they're delicious and so, so easy to make.

Here's everything you'll need. It's all pretty standard stuff you might already have in the pantry, which is a huge plus for me.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup almond butter
  • 1/4 cup raw honey
  • 1/2 cup dried elderberries
  • 1/4 cup dried cranberries
  • 1/4 cup chopped nuts (almonds or walnuts)

And here's how you throw it all together. It's ridiculously simple.

Instructions:

  1. Mix the Base: In a large bowl, mix together the rolled oats, almond butter, and raw honey until well combined.
  2. Add the Goodies: Stir in the dried elderberries, dried cranberries, and chopped nuts.

  3. Form the Bites: Roll the mixture into small balls and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  4. Chill and Enjoy: Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving.

These have become such a lifesaver. I grab a couple on my way out the door for school drop-off, or when that 3 p.m. slump hits. It feels like a real snack, you know? Something that actually gives you a little boost from the honey and nuts, but you're also getting that elderberry goodness in there.

Why Elderberry?

So what's the big deal with elderberries, anyway? I’ve been trying to understand it better myself. From what I’ve gathered, they're just packed with antioxidants and vitamins that can help your body fight things off. I saw something that said they can help with colds and the flu by giving your immune system a little extra support. I used to think that was just hype, but the more I read, the more it seems like there’s something to it. It also seems to have anti-inflammatory properties, which just feels like an all-around good thing to add to your diet.

Okay, so full disclosure, some days I just don't have the time or energy to make anything, not even a five-minute recipe. That’s when I turn to these MommaBear Organics Elderberry Lollipop. They’re such a clever idea—a treat that's also doing something good for you. They’re perfect for the kids, obviously, but I’ve definitely snagged a few for myself.

It’s just nice to have something that’s made with real ingredients, you know? It feels like you’re getting all the natural benefits of elderberry in a way that’s actually enjoyable and super convenient. It’s one less thing to worry about, which any parent can appreciate.

Anyway, that's what's been working for us lately. I don't know if there's any magic bullet for keeping everyone healthy all winter long, but finding little things like this... it helps. It feels like I'm doing something proactive, and honestly, some days that's enough.
